St John's will have an open day from 10am-2pm. 'Chip off the old Brockma' is a family friendly event with free cake and a cuppa, at which visitors can see one of the stonemasons at work, have a go at building a mini stone wall, try their hand at stone carving, while finding out about the work that has been done to the roof, guttering and drains, which means the building is no longer “at risk”. Our local MP, Mike Wood, will join us in the morning and will ring the repaired church bell to mark this stage in the work, which has been backed by the Heritage Lottery Fund. We can also tell visitors about plans for the kitchen and toilets to make the building fit for a wide range of community uses.
